2022 Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport fits in the subcompact crossover SUV market, but it stands out from others in its segment now that it comes with standard all-wheel drive. The other change for 2022 is every EcoSport now comes only with a non-turbo engine. Here's a closer look at some of the EcoSport's details.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The S is the entry-level EcoSport. It has 16-inch alloy wheels and power windows. A step up to the SE adds LED running lights, fog lights, body-colored door handles and exterior trim, roof rails, and a sunroof. The SE Appearance Package adds 17-inch wheels, or you can opt for the SES trim, which comes standard with black 17-inch wheels. The SES also adds a sport suspension and heated exterior side mirrors. The Titanium is the top-level trim. It has chrome exterior trim elements and comes with heated side mirrors.
The EcoSport's exterior design has a unique swing-out tailgate. Instead of lifting up, it swings out like a car door.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to five in the EcoSport. The front seats have plenty of headroom and legroom, and it has a large cargo area with 20.9 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seats. Fold these down and it opens up to 50 cubic feet. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but it's worth stepping up to the SE for the heated front seats, automatic climate control, and tinted rear windows. The SES and the Titanium both have a heated steering wheel and leather upholstery.
The SE is the best place to start for technology. It has an 8-inch touch screen, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrated navigation, and two USB ports. Every EcoSport except the base has the SYNC 3 infotainment system, while the SE Convenience Package adds a 110-volt power outlet and an upgraded stereo. Step up to the Titanium for a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and an HD radio.
Performance
The EcoSport is fun to drive for a small crossover. It has a sporty feel behind the wheel, especially if you have the SES with the sport-tuned suspension. The standard all-wheel drive makes this an ideal compact SUV for snowy and icy areas, and if you live in the city, it can zip around crowded streets with ease and slip into tight parking spots. When properly equipped, it can even tow up to 2,000 pounds, which is impressive for its class.
Safety Features
Every EcoSport has a rearview camera, but you'll get front and rear parking sensors in the SE. Add the SE Convenience Package for a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, or step up to the SES to make these standard and add rain-sensing windshield wipers and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Engine (Power)
Starting with the 2022 model year, all EcoSport trims use the same powertrain. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine develops 166 horsepower and gets 149 pound-feet of torque. It uses a six-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with all-wheel drive.
